  • Trained at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation, and Language Education), Ronald Silvester, MA, is a seasoned English (A)-Spanish (A) conference interpreter with ample experience in the booth (simultaneous) and in the conference room (consecutive and whispered). Accredited by the Government of Canada (PWGSC-Translation Bureau), Ronald has interpreted at countless conferences--technical, academic, administrative and political in nature--and has accompanied high-level government missions abroad: Cuba (Agriculture Canada), Dominican Republic (DFAIT), Nicaragua (National Defence), Colombia and Chile (DFAIT-Prime Minister Harper), Italy (G8+G5-L'Aquila) and, more recently, Mexico and Panama (DFAIT-Prime Minister Harper) as well as Bolivia (9th CDMA – Defence Minister Peter MacKay and Chief of Defence Staff Walter Natynczyk). For many years in the past, he interpreted for the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) at hearings in Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.

2003 - present: Conference Interpreter for
Conference Interpretation Services, Translation Bureau, Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC)

1990 - present: Independent interpreter, translator, and transcriptionist for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Canada (Multilingual Services Section). Duties involve translating technical texts into English and Spanish, mostly in the fields of law enforcement, finance, and politics, as well as consecutive interpreting at bilateral meetings.

2001 - present: Independent translator, Translation Bureau, Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC)

Court Interpreting and Administrative Hearings
2002: Court Interpreter. Nunavut Court of Justice, Iqaluit. Criminal trials.

1989 - 2005: Interpreter for the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) since the organization's inception. Duties included consecutive interpreting into English and Spanish and simultaneous interpreting into Spanish.

1994 - present: Independent translator and Spanish language consultant for
a variety of private companies and crown corporations, including Nortel Networks (fibre optics), EMS Technologies (SARSAT equipment), Export Development Canada (export insurance and financing), the National Arts Centre Orchestra (2003 Mexico/US tour), SR Telecom (TDMA telecommunications systems), and Northland Aluminum Products/Nordic Ware division.

1989 - present: Independent translator and reviser for Living Language Services, Inc. of Ottawa and Alpnet Canada of Montreal (a division of SDL International). In this capacity, Mr Silvester regularly translates and edits texts for Nokia, Telesat Canada, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Hitachi Data Systems, Ingersoll-Wohlhaupter, CCD (conversion software), Canada Life, Nestlé, Loto Québec/WLA, Brita Canada, The Council of Canadians, and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT).
